“I helped transform next-generation gaming.” Meet John Bruno, the Program Manager behind the cloud platform that powers

As the Titanfall trailer says, the game is “a new frontier where man and machine fight as one.” If you ask John Bruno, the leading edge is about to get even better.

John is responsible for the Xbox Live cloud platform, the service platform Titanfall was built on, which runs on top of Microsoft Azure.  The platform powers a few games that have already been released, and is being rapidly adopted by several others.  In his own words, John shares why server technologies will transform next-generation gaming.

Initially, we launched the platform in late 2013 with Xbox One, and subsequently our bigger launch with Titanfall was this past March.  It’s been incredibly exciting to see the platform and the game come to fruition – a tale of two births really. The game is the star of the show of course: It’s the first installment from an industry-leading studio. The platform was the enabler for the game.  It represents what I believe Microsoft platforms are great for: providing the “behind the scenes” strength and flexibility to enable someone else’s creativity and IP to shine. It’s also an example of how we (Microsoft) leveraged our skills and experience in delivering services at scale to help a start-up studio deliver a mega-hit to 10 datacenters and millions of users around the globe.
